Abstract

Gossypiboma is a term used to describe a surgical sponge or a laparotomy pad left accidentally in the body cavity after a surgical procedure. They may appear even years after surgery with non-specific clinical features. Gossypibomas are an unwanted and dreaded post-surgical complication having medicolegal implications. A case of gossypibomas mimicking as complex adnexal mass in an infertile women is reported. The uniqueness of the case lies in the fact that it remained undetected for 4 years, imaging was in-conclusive and removal could be done laparoscopically despite dense adhesions and previous failed surgery.
