Contraception is an important aspect of reproductive and sexual health. Intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs) present as an effective affordable and safe method of contraception in countries like India. One of the rare but dreaded complications of these devices is migration to an ectopic site following uterine perforation. These cases pose clinical dilemma as most often they remain asymptomatic. Here we present a case of migrated IUCD presenting with pain abdomen where an erroneous history by patient deterred clinical suspicion and delayed the diagnosis by 12 years.
