Abstract

Objectives: To study and compare forceps and vacuum application for delivery of floating head in cesarean section with standard procedure of manual extraction. Methods: A prospective comparative randomized study between manual extraction, forceps and vacuum application during delivery of high floating head in cesarean section carried out over a period of two years. Seventy five cases were recruited with floating head at term undergoing cesarean section and were grouped into three groups. Neonatal and maternal outcomes and complications were compared. Results: The extension of incision was significantly lower in forceps extraction (p = 0.05).The time taken for vacuum extraction of fetal head was the higher. PPH was observed the higher in manual extraction, followed by vacuum and forceps extraction. Conclusion: Use of forceps or vacuum for the extraction of fetal head during caesarean section is safe for the mother and the fetus.
