Abstract

ABSTRACT:Osteoporosis is becoming a global health concern as recently the World Health Organization study group estimated over 75,000,000 individuals being affected in USA, Japan and Europe alone. Although the pathophysiology of Osteoporosis among postmenopausal women can be explained with various models, still in developing countries they are not identified early and managed appropriately. “WHO Fracture Risk Assessment Tool” (FRAX) is a time tested accurate tool which predicts the risk of fracture in women, and it can be adapted to be used for south-east Asian population, This will help us decide on early management and use a multi-modal approach which includes lifestyle modification, Anti resorptive agents and anabolic agents to customize the management according to an individual.Keywords: Osteoporosis, Menopause, FRAX, BMD, South East Asia.
